Simple Pump

Simple pump

We finally got around to installing the manual well pump we purchased last fall! Now if the power ever goes out, we still have access to our well water and we are one step closer to water security. The company we purchased it from is called Simple Pump and it should be able to give us full, normal use of all of our home's taps and plumbing fixtures up to a water level of 325 feet deep.

First José had to remove the roof of the structure that was covering our well since it was in the way. I'm hoping we can rebuild it like it was since it was a cute way to hide the well casing.

Next, José had to splice the wires of our submersible pump in order to replace the old well cap and then reconnect the wires again.

We then had to slowly drop down 7 sucker rods and drop pipes being careful not to drop them completely down the well.

Once finished, the top sucker rod should have been protruding around 5 inches, but we were a little short so had to order a few extra rod extenders.

We then added the pump head and lever arm handle as well as a check valve and pressure gauge for when we hook it up to the house. It took a few pumps but water came out so it was a success! Now we only need to order a food grade water hose to attach to the outside faucet and into our pressure tank and we'll be good to go. That is unless we want to feel like we're in the olden days and carry buckets of water into the house!
